Members present: Michelle McGlynn, Scott Kosidowski, Katy Morgan, Josh Firgens, Ginger Verhulst, Katie Grassel, Dave Thomas, Kelly Hoyland, Becky Ackermann, Lauretta Pickel, Jen Bishop, Kyla Stefan, Tina Trumbower, Jen Wegner, Moira Lafayette, Mike Carpenter, Lila Waldman, Laura Schoenike

1. Call to Order at 9 a.m. by Michelle McGlynn

2. Appointment of Parliamentarian – Michelle McGlynn

3. Review and Approval of Secretary’s Minutes from January Board Meeting, Katy Morgan

4. Treasurer’s Report – Allison Holtzer

A. Budget Committee met and completed budget for next year. Looking at options for a CD instead of just a regular savings account. Will be moving some money to that account. Budget will be submitted for audit.

5. Old Business

A. Job Description Updates – All

a. Board members will look at descriptions and make changes/updates with Michelle via Dropbox by July 15.

B. Bylaw Updates – All

a. None

C. WBEA History –Laura Schoenike

a. Put together documents to update history for the past 10-15 years to update on the website.

D. Dropbox Folders – Michelle McGlynn

a. Utilize to help eliminate binders. Create folders and update files.

E. Website Updates and Requests – Katie Grassel

a. Member spotlight is up. Need updated info. October 1 will update member list (after convention). WBEJ uploaded, along with convention information. Still working to get more info to help members see value, help get new members. Board members get names of 2-3 people to fill out Google form for member spotlight. Mike Carpenter suggested issuing notification to members that as of November 1, will be deleted from Members Only section if membership dues not paid, since next few conventions are in mid-October.

6. New Business

A. WBEA and FBLA District Alignment

a. Move to 7 districts for WBEA to align with FBLA for consistency was discussed. District 2 Rep has been hard to find. Reps may not be in same district if change happened.

1. Motion to go to 7 districts by Tina Trumbower, seconded by Katie Grassel

a. Motion passes

2. Motion to make bylaws reflect 7 districts by Jen Wegner, seconded by Scott Kosidowski.

a. Discussion – Reps don’t need to come from district representing, if needed

B. Convention Coordinator Position

a. Posted and very few submissions. Extended through September 1. Board will vote on position at September meeting. New person would shadow Mike Carpenter at Madison convention, and then will take over after that. Josh Firgens will be receiving applications.  Convention dates set for: Madison – October 17-18, Eau Claire Oct 16-17, Appleton around same weekend, La Crosse still in the works.

C. Convention Responsibilities, Facilitation – Mike Carpenter & Michelle McGlynn

a. Need willingness to help facilitate from board members to record with flip cams, so members who couldn’t attend that session could still view it.

b. Silent Auction, raffles were discussed, if they should be continued, or new ideas. Jen Wegner suggested putting money towards scholarship, instead of just convention fund. Need people to get baskets together and work in the booth. Email basket theme to Michelle.

7. Committee Break-Out Session (Brief – discussion of what is needed and report back to group)

a. Done – awarded to Keith from UW-Whitewater and Nicole from UW-Stout

B. Awards Committee

a. Friend – Cindy Whitt – Jumpstart Coalition, Post-Secondary – Chris Chesky, Lorraine Missling – Ginger, K-12 – 3 nominees

C. Nominations Committee

b. Discussed if President-elect can be split between two people. Will be contacting possible candidates as soon as possible to fill roles.

c. Lauretta said she’d fill another term, if needed.

8. Convention Report, 2012 – Mike Carpenter

A. Get registered on CVENT. Went through tentative schedule with meals.

9. Membership Report – Josh Firgens

A. Membership Breakdown – up from last year

10. Marketing Director Report – Ginger Verhulst and Michelle McGlynn

A. What we want to see on the website to get people to want to be members – achievements, etc. Use the listserv. Member of the Month, and a “Did You Know” section about WBEA history, a best practice section. Utilizing Facebook, promoting at convention. Media release form to use with video from convention presentations. Videocasts – promotional highlights of classes, etc. Convention program cover designs.

11. Spring Update Reports – Jen Wegner and District Reps

A. 5 out of the 6 Spring updates went – canceled Fennimore. Made $65. Good turnout in most districts. Dave and Tim will work on dates for August/September. Jen suggests sticking with the 6 districts for now.

12. Legislative Report – Dave Thomas

A. Learning the role in CTE advocacy. Policy seminar pushed for college completion rates – under 50% of students across the country complete college. “CTE Works” was the theme. Carl Perkins funding will lose around $2 million in the fiscal year – a 10% reduction for Wisconsin.

13. DPI Report – Jen Wegner and Dave Thomas

A. Standards Revisions, Disciplinary Literacy, B&IT Equivalency Options, Licensing Based on Equivalency, Educator Effectiveness, and FBLA Updates

B. Motion to support Allison Hill’s bid for National FBLA President with $150 by Katie Grassel, second by Josh Firgens

a. Motion passes

14. WTC Report – Moira Lafayette

A. Update from district board association – looking at youth options, etc for high school students to increase opportunities

15. NCBEA Report – Tina Trumbower

A. Chicago Workshop canceled. Post cards from Sharon Fischer Larsen to NCBEA members. National Business Honor Society update. Conference in October in Indianapolis.

16. WBEJ Report – Cindy Otto

A. Journal was delayed.  Discussion to make sure convention stuff makes it in the journal and to meet the deadlines.
